Feng Shui |
Feng shui (in English pronounced as ¡°fung shway¡±) is the ancient Chinese practice of arrangement to achieve harmony with the environment. People believed that in some aspects, it has effect on health, wealth, relationships, etc. A space that is clean, spacious, pleasant and enjoyable to be in supports and motivates the inhabitant to work and achieve goals. This is the aim of feng shui.
The Chi
In the world of feng shui, every objects, includes human being, radiates energy, called ¡°chi¡±. This chi energy permeates and flow around you, whether you are inside a building or outside. The environment chi and your personal chi effects and complement each other. An angry and frustrated chi from somebody is sensed by his/her surroundings. And likewise, a cluttered chi in a cluttered office influences the inhabitant's personal chi, and therefore his/hers attitude.
The goal of feng shui is to keep the flow of chi energy inside the working or living space vibrant, balanced and alive, thus it nourishes and generates a good personal chi of the people inside it. And on the contrary, if the personal chi is blocked or unbalance, it will cause illness or depression.
Ying and Yang
In Chinese philosophy, yin (moon) is the passive, cold, receptive female force. Yang (sun) is the force, masculine, full of movement, heat.
Chi manifests itself in two forms of energy called Yin and Yang. They are described as two fundamental forces of nature. They interacts with each other, and one cannot exist without the other. Just like we cannot experience light without dark, or happiness without sadness. A balance between Yin and Yang in a space must be achieved to have good effects for the inhabitant. For example a room cannot have too much striking white light with a lot of windows and openings (excessive Yang energy). Spending too much time in a room like this would cause anxiousness and illness because he/she loose too much ¡°energy¡±. On the other hand, spending too much time in a room that has very little light and cold (excessive Yin energy) would cause to feel stuck, stuffy, and not healthy.

Few adjustments to the arrangement of the office space would increase work productivity or change to get that promotion or raise. The work space must be inspiring and supportive. Some useful tips about it;
1) Reduce cluttered area as much as possible. Clutter reduces work productivity and creates frustration. Use easy access cabinets, bookshelves, bins or others to store and organize. Piling objects on the floor will cause unfinished projects and obstruction to meet deadlines. It is good to sort and discard unused papers and materials regularly.
2) To place working table facing a window and the entrance door. Thus providing a good view of visitors approaching. On the contrary, workstation that is placed with the back facing the doorway creates a sense of nervousness and unready in facing what is coming.
